"Over the Hills and Far Away," 40" x 40"
Acrylic on Canvas.
“Here I used various textures and mixed bright, bold colours with the more subdued. This artwork arrives ready to hang with the sides of the canvas painted a light grey to compliment the work.
When I first started painting full-time almost 9 years ago, that's pretty much what I did all day as I was so happy that I could devote myself entirely to creating. Then I realized how important it was to take nature breaks each day by walking in the fresh air and taking in the precious, present moment. This is how I began adding landscape elements to my abstract works ~ being inspired by all the colors and beauty that nature has to offer. After coming home from my outing I would feel refreshed and renewed and ready to get back to my canvas. This piece was created from my imagination using various textures, color combinations, and shapes. The possibilities for these scenes are endless and I'm always excited to see where the next work takes me.”
Loretta Kaltenhauser is an established, contemporary, award-winning Canadian artist. She creates works that are either abstract or have landscape elements to them. As a self-taught artist, Kaltenhauser is fearless and approaches her work with respect but without ceremony. Her vision seems unclouded, uncluttered. Perhaps it's her open attitude that allows her a certain freedom. She smiles and notes “...by not knowing the rules, I am breaking them all the time.” Using various brushes and palette knives, Loretta layers subtracts, and manipulates acrylic paint on canvas, to synthesize an intricate and distinct tableau. Colors and shapes take on an energy of their own and each subsequent layer of texture and color she adds reinterprets her thoughts and emotions.
