"In 2022 I started a new palette in neutral shades. I find the soft whites, warm greys and taupes to be very calming and peaceful. Mindful living and meditation encourages us to be present, a helpful way to do this is [to] Pause. [be]Calm."
I LOVE my art it is such a joy to be creative. When I create my paintings, I often think I want them to be pleasing to the eye. Fortunately that can mean so many things to so many viewers. I might think it is ugly, chaotic, and unsettling while others may find the opposite true. Rather it might be pleasing, calming and lovely. It is a pleasure to paint abstract because it especially asks the question what is art? While it seems complete non representational works are not for everyone, they are sure to stimulate conversation.
A current series I have is based around my 16 year meditation practise, where the names come from mindful mantras and concepts. My hope is that between the title and the actual piece the viewer will learn something about themselves, about others, about meditation, or about the process. Where art simply and wonderfully draws them in."
Connie O’Connor is a Canadian artist whose focus is abstract art using acrylic and mixed media. She paints intuitively creating depth, movement and energy in each piece. She moves between abstracted landscapes and complete abstraction using colour, shape, form and texture to express herself. A prairie native growing up on a farm in Manitoba, Connie’s inspiration comes from big blue skies and sweeping vistas. Her interest in, and love for the arts began when she was young and evolved over the years through a teaching career in fashion and design. The influence of her fashion background is evident in her use of textures, patterns and varied colour palettes. Her intuitive style and inspiring meditative titles draw viewers in. Connie considers it an honour when someone loves her work so much it becomes part of their home. She currently lives in the Vancouver area in BC, Canada.
