"I was thinking about the Colours of Joy show, and whilst its not a new work, I couldn't think of a more fitting piece than 'The Smilemaker' - it's almost as if it was named for the how, which it wasn't but it was named because as I created it and the colours took hold, it made me smile more and more until I was literally grinning at the beautiful way the colours had melded and combined. Now, as people look at it now it has the same effect on them."
