"The theme of choice is a frequently reoccurring one in my work. As a safe, and somewhat conservative person, I tend to consider multiple possible options when faced with lives’ most important decisions. While this piece is based on events from my own life, as with all my work, the viewer is encouraged to put these aside and assign their own unique personal experiences.
Art to me provides a momentary escape into another world. Standing before a piece of art allows for the opportunity to enter the mind and world of the artist. Regardless of the image before you, like it or not, it can offer you a perspective very different from your own - should you approach it with an open mind. The deeper you allow yourself to go beneath the surface image the more likely you will be able to walk away with a better understanding of and a deeper appreciation for the piece. This is what excites me most about art! The connection I can have to an artwork and its creator by putting in the necessary time to have a conversation with both. Listening and seeking to understand the inspiration behind a piece and the perspective of the artist is always worth the effort."
Luke Labelle-Stackhouse is a self-taught hardedge artist based in Toronto. While he has been developing his style for over a decade, it has only been within the last three years that he has chosen to share it publicly. The aim of his work is to offer visual resting opportunities that achieve a sense of peace and order in an uncontrollable world. The meticulously mapped out compositions are very graphic and celebrate structure, order, and a dedication to the very minute details of life. His carefully chosen titles speak to many universally understood themes: love, gratitude, hope and grief.
