"Ancient Future " is an abstract landscape created intuitively from a mystical state evoked through conscious and subconscious impressions, visions and dreams. Loving old and weathered things and places, here I used a technique by scraping lines on the canvas so that at various angles in different light, you see multiple textures illuminated which gives the entire piece an aged effect. The entire artwork is finished with a gloss coating to further enhance the lines and textures added. The sides of this canvas are painted black."

Loretta Kaltenhauser is an established, contemporary, award-winning Canadian artist. She creates works that are either abstract or have landscape elements to them. Using various brushes and palette knives, Loretta layers subtracts, and manipulates acrylic paint on canvas, to synthesize an intricate and distinct tableau. Colours and shapes take on an energy of their own and each subsequent layer of texture and colour she adds reinterprets her thoughts and emotions.
