"This piece, with a multitude of layers of vivid turquoise, blues and yellow, is driven by the emotional recall of summer's past, present and future. It speaks of warmth and tranquillity only found on a Summers's day.
There was a time I believed that art had to be beautiful, have a particular purpose or be monetized. As my knowledge and experience have grown over the years, it seems the more I know, the less I know. For me, artists convey not only the world as they see it but also the emotional connections to the human experience.
I have always had this urge to touch things. I am fascinated with the link between the expected rather than the actual stimuli received. The mind acts as the great deceiver, often filling in gaps by merging memories, amplifying feelings and exaggerating recalled colours. Creating work that can be physically and emotionally touched becomes a constant communication with myself, and the notion of feeling becomes a celebration of life. Working primarily in acrylics and industrial adhesives, the material property of mediums is essential to me. These works have become a choreography of my life."
To fulfill a promise made to his father as a teenager, Irish artist Anthony Carey is currently studying for a BA in Creative Arts. He currently lives in Dublin where he spent over 20 years as a graphic design tutor. Working intuitively, he has developed a passionate relationship with colour and texture, allowing him to respond to emotional connections. His work concerns itself with pathways to consciousness, to create something tangible based on recalled life experiences, expressed through residues of colour and texture.
