An abstract view of a stormy night by the riverside depicts the order and chaos in an infinite dance. Isn't life a constant struggle to extract some order out of the chaos around us?
"As an artist, my mission is to bring joy to my viewers' lives. I also believe that joy encompasses a spectrum of feelings, from exhilaration to peaceful contentment, whether it is caused by an uplifting bright sunset, an overcast day with flurries, or a serene night with touches of lit windows. The interplay of colors, texture, rhythm, shade, and light in my work is thoughtfully designed to mimic that spectrum of emotions, and color plays an essential role in capturing the essence of joy.
I explore and bring to my viewers' attention the intangible radiance of life through my semi-abstract lens and my inspiration springs from moments that most people miss in their busy everyday lives. I capture those fleeting moments in my mind or in a sketchbook, which you see later, on my canvas. I do this by blending what I see, with my feelings and imagination, creating what is known as “semi-abstract art”.
Through my paintings, I invite you to experience the joys of nature with me, seeing the world through a blend of reality and imagination. I leave it open enough so you can construct your own narrative and connect your unique experiences to it. The radiance of life is in the small fleeting moments that one might miss in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Hence... art !”
Born and raised in Iran and now based in Toronto, Mahassa Bahri has been painting since 1992. She studied painting, art theory and history under the tutelage and guidance of international and renowned artist, Gholamhossein Nami. During those years, she was exposed to new and exciting ideas which gradually formed her abstract art.
Mahassa Bahri was a member of the Association of Iranian Painters. Leaving her native country behind and immigrating to Canada came with all the hardships of building a new life and trying to fit into a new country. With all the difficulties and financial challenges that came with this venture, she was initially separated from her art, unable to afford art supplies, which was a soul-crushing experience for her. After a few years, she was able to embrace her art once again and this time, all the ups and downs of her recent years showed in her art, with different elements like heavy textures, rhythms and patterns, that are part of her signature style now.
