Glorious Grasses, 24" x 24"
Acrylic on Canvas.
"The theme of this show fully embodies a lot of my art pieces and my process and style of painting. My inspiration for painting comes from everything I observe that touches my heart, from my walks in nature to beautiful flowers and scenery, to even random objects with patterns and colours that pop and capture my attention. I like to capture some of that joy and translate it into my paintings. I have enjoyed painting seascapes, landscapes, florals, and abstracts, and prefer a contemporary approach with a playful mix of subjects in colours and textures that suit my mood and feeling at the moment. Painting brings me immense joy and I can get lost into my paintings for hours and days until I’m happy with the outcome. The joy of painting has a meditative effect on me that is absolutely priceless.
For this show, I am presenting some of my paintings for the theme that stood out to me when I painted them as being super joyful and radiated warmth to my heart. “Glorious grasses” was the result of watching endless grasses on my walks swaying in the wind, and calling out to me to capture some of their magic. I brought samples home to get the true essence and feel, and it was truly joyful to create with the golden touch. It is truly a wonderful feeling to paint ordinary subjects and make them look extraordinary while creating them and feeling immense joy in the process. I hope to pass on the same joyful radiant feeling to the viewers when they look at my unique pieces of art."
Born and raised in India, Mona Trivedi’s art journey began in high school and college where she was able to take extracurricular classes in oil painting and watercolour while pursuing a degree specializing in Nutrition. When she married and immigrated to Canada, art was put aside while she concentrated on raising a family and working first in the nutrition field and then made the transition to help manage her husband’s printing business, doing administration and accounting.
Everything changed on Christmas Day, 2014 when her children presented her with a stack of canvasses and signed her up for art classes. She began to enjoy painting again while she further improved her skills in watercolour, and learned new techniques with acrylic and mixed media. In 2018, she joined Ajax Creative Arts, and in 2019 the Art Guild of Scarborough and the Pine Ridge Arts Council. In March 2019, Mona participated in her first art show at the McLean Community Centre, entitled “Fifteen Reasons to Live”. Since then, she has participated in several art shows at community centres, Cedar ridge art gallery and several online shows in the Toronto GTA and Port Perry. She has also done collaborative abstract art on the theme of music.
