Hold on to the Feeling, 30" x 40"
Mixed Media on Canvas.
"Universal language of joy is different for everyone. For me, it is what you see in the everyday foliage by the roadside. A tangle of weeds, grass, and the unexpected joy of beautiful flowers. You can pass them by or you can stop and take it all in. Every time I paint an abstracted landscape or a field flower painting, I feel joy as if I am walking deep in the foliage. The layers of colour represent the individual blades of grass and the intertwined leaves and flowers."
Markham-based Canadian artist Kareen Hague is an experimental fine artist and she describes her work as abstracted realism. Kareen layers her canvas with papers and mediums to create an unexpected surface to capture the many layers of colour. The texture is not always captured in the photos of her work but it is the texture and thin layers of colour that draws you in. The artist uses both traditional and non-traditional mark-making tools to develop the background and then layer in the details.
