"As my longest running and most successful series, the Hope pieces are among my favourites to create. They are always meant to be uplifting and aspirational. I continue to tweak the palette slightly with each new piece added to the series. However, even while doing so, I avoid drifting too far from the original.
Art to me provides a momentary escape into another world. Standing before a piece of art allows for the opportunity to enter the mind and world of the artist. Regardless of the image before you, like it or not, it can offer you a perspective very different from your own - should you approach it with an open mind. The deeper you allow yourself to go beneath the surface image the more likely you will be able to walk away with a better understanding of and a deeper appreciation for the piece. This is what excites me most about art! The connection I can have to an artwork and its creator by putting in the necessary time to have a conversation with both. Listening and seeking to understand the inspiration behind a piece and the perspective of the artist is always worth the effort."
Luke Labelle-Stackhouse is a self-taught hardedge artist based in Toronto. While he has been developing his style for over a decade, it has only been within the last three years that he has chosen to share it publicly. The aim of his work is to offer visual resting opportunities that achieve a sense of peace and order in an uncontrollable world. The meticulously mapped out compositions are very graphic and celebrate structure, order, and a dedication to the very minute details of life. His carefully chosen titles speak to many universally understood themes: love, lose, gratitude, hope and grief.
