"Falling upon this blurry image and loving the slight, downward perspective led my mind to experience a moment of deep intimacy. The transparent layers of subtle skin tones feel like, the one who sees her, knows her innermost being. There was no laboring of skill or conforming to expectations with this piece.  I just gave into the visual, accepted, and worked with the lines and forms my eyes could grasp.   

The process of taking hold of a creative thought and running with it to its end is a humbling task. So much of me questions its organic nature and yet I selfishly want to claim it as my own. I am inclined to keep working in this way because it releases fresh experiences that renew my mind."

Joanna Aplin’s figurative and abstract paintings are clean and captivating. Her classically trained yet contemporary approach to color, form, and line makes her work aesthetically pleasing to all walks of life. Her compositions carry an intrinsic sense of balance and proportion. Aplin takes her visual cues from the complexities in nature and the human form, then welcomes a reductive process – knowing it will lead to a simpler, more essential presentation of the subject matter.
