"Island on Lake Superior - Long exposure of a small island on Lake Superior north of Sault Ste. Marie and just before the entrance to Lake Superior Provincial Park.
Art is everywhere. What I mean by that is if we take the time and slow down to really observe our surroundings, we can begin to see all manner of art right in front of us. Our environment may appear to be quite ordinary on the surface but when we work to create a composition on numerous materials it can become something that touches people in various different ways. While I concentrate primarily on black and white photographic landscapes, the incorporation of negative space as a form becomes as
important as the main subject matter itself, creating a complete experience for the audience."
Born and raised in Toronto, Canadian artist Rick Bogacz's artistic influences began with his father, a draftsman by trade but in his spare time loved to paint and sketch with pencils. Rick is not exactly sure when he first picked up a camera but he remembers purchasing a Canoe AE-1 when it first came out in the late 70s. Rick was hooked by the output, and with his journalistic background, concentrated on street photography. In the mid-90s, he decided it was time to pursue his passion for picture taking more seriously. Rick left his job as a reporter and studied photography full-time at Humber College in Toronto. After graduating, he took on contract work as both a freelance reporter and news photographer.
