I place the viewer inside forest spaces, often looking upward through vertical birch trunks toward shifting light, so that direction is something you feel rather than something clearly mapped out. These environments act as quiet anchors. The repetition of trees, the rhythm of the seasons, and the movement of light create a sense of grounding, especially when things feel uncertain.

I often work in multi-panel pieces that follow the same landscape through the four seasons. The scene changes—light shifts, colors evolve, but the structure remains. That continuity becomes an anchor, reflecting how life moves while something deeper stays steady. For me, landscape isn’t about escape, it’s about returning. The forest becomes a point of reference, something steady you can move through and come back to. It holds both stillness and change, offering a space to pause, reflect, and quietly reorient."

Maria Isabel Fleury is a Canadian-Venezuelan landscape painter whose work is inspired by the transformative power of the Canadian outdoors. Raised in Venezuela’s tropical climate, she developed a deep appreciation for seasonal change after relocating to Canada, which now plays a central role in her practice. Primarily self-taught, Fleury continues to refine her work through mentorship with Canadian artists Tim Packer, Lee Munn, David Langevin, and Charlie Easton. Working in acrylic on canvas, she creates bold, luminous forest and landscape paintings that explore light, atmosphere, and seasonal transition. Her process begins outdoors, where she hikes and photographs landscapes across Canada, and continues in the studio through layered applications of colour and expressive brushwork.

She has exhibited at major shows including One of a Kind, Toronto (2025) and Spring Cottage Life, Mississauga (2026).
