"Reverie," 36" x 48"
Alcohol Ink on Canvas.
“As the warmth and radiance of the Summer sunsets in, I notice a natural lightness emerging on the canvas. I am always inclined to play with light and shadow, but somehow the Summer vibe has a will of its own, influencing each stroke. I notice that I am infusing my work with vibrant colours and animated forms that speak to the blossoming of life all around.
The sun floods my studio and affects my mood and this, in turn, has a direct, if the unconscious impact on the way I approach a piece. Gone is the darkness that can sometimes appear during the colder months, and I am drawn naturally to express myself in ways that reflect the warmer, brighter world outside. The natural world is always with me when I paint, and often I rely on my mind’s eye to evoke their colours and inspiration. But in Summer, it is right there before me and this is something completely different and wonderful.”
Toronto-based abstract artist Mishel Schwartz's primary medium is alcohol ink — a medium she discovered by exploring the art scene on social media. Intrigued, she began experimenting with the inks and slowly developed a technique wherein layers of colour are added and intricate details are then carved out of the layers, giving her work great depth and mystery.
