"Art is freedom" my then 10-year-old son told me while we were on our way to a friend's first solo exhibition. I was explaining to him that my friend was a little nervous about the exhibition because she was not sure if people would like or even understand her work. So, every time that someone asks me "what is art", the first thing that comes to my mind is "Freedom", freedom of dreaming, freedom of communicating, freedom of expressing feelings, of telling your stories through colours and brush strokes!

”Solitaria” (adj. – feminine) is a Spanish word for “lonely”, but it is also used to describe a flower that grows isolated from others. This series shows a lonely flower leaning over what could be a planting pot with rests of greenery. The palette used in these works suggest a serene -maybe even sad?- conversation between them. A bold choice of background for this painting as a soft pink flower seems to be floating on a very textured, dark violet background."

Primarily self-taught, abstract artist María Moreno has cultivated her own unique style by honouring her instincts and challenging the limitations of conventional practices. Born in the Canary Islands and having grown up in Venezuela, María's use of colour and shape are intrinsically linked to the countries of her childhood. As a result, her artwork is visceral and boundless, a passionate embodiment of her own personal experiences.
