ARTIST STATEMENT
"My primary objective is to capture the essence of the Canadian landscape. Having grown up in Northern Ontario, where the terrain is rugged and intense, I find myself drawn to that raw beauty as a constant source of inspiration for my paintings. In my artistic process, I immerse myself, not just from a formal standpoint but also on a personal and emotional level. My goal is to craft a dynamic interplay of tensions and balances among color, shape, and space. The relationship between these formal elements, allowing them to organically generate from one another, is what creates vitality and movement in my paintings.
I focus on the intricate shapes and patterns present in nature, exploring the play of reflections in water, and delving into the nuances of color and light. Drawing on the inherent abstraction found in the natural world, I take it a step further by adding my own layers, enhancing its intrinsic beauty. When painting in a more abstract style, the central challenge lies in striking a harmonious balance between recognizable forms and personal interpretation. Through this process, I strive to not just depict the landscape but to give it a life of its own on canvas."
