"My series is made through landscape paintings of trees that explore emotional balance and persistence. I use windswept trees bending through the pressure, but they remain standing and secure. I also employ the use of colour and movement to reflect my inner state instead of just depicting a scene outright. A core feature of these works is the colour play and the wind, where the colour is in the forefront and the wind is a pressure that turns the trees into a metaphor for myself. The trees are bent, exposed and shaped by its environment, yet still rooted and themselves. The shifting contrast between my pinks, reds, and greens creates a world that feels psychological and atmospheric. I am depicting direction, identity and steadiness as states in flux which are being constantly renegotiated."

Teia Brigitte is a Canadian artist based in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Her work is inspired by the trees she sees on the shoreline of Lake Superior. Teia explores her inner world through painting her emotional state, movement, and colour as it relates to landscapes around her.
