Good Morning Winter, 18" x 12"
Acrylic on Canvas. 18 x 12 x 1.5 inches.
"My paintings are rooted in the natural world shaped by memory and emotion. Inspired by Impressionism, I use bold color, texture, and light to create semi-abstract landscapes that feel both familiar and dreamlike. The theme Rooted Realities resonates deeply with my work, where reality and imagination intertwine. Nothing is more deeply rooted and more real in the minds of men than nature itself, making it a powerful foundation for exploring intelligence."
Elena Butkov is a Toronto-based artist, formally trained in Belarus and Israel, working primarily in acrylics within the styles of impressionism and realism. Her work features vivid color palettes, dynamic textures, and a harmonious balance between emotional expression and recognizable forms. Using both brushes and palette knives, Elena creates vibrant, lively paintings that invite viewers to engage deeply with their energy and depth. Her artworks are held in private collections across Canada and the United States.
Elena’s practice explores the connection between what is seen and what lies beneath — the “roots” that nourish our shared reality. This is her visual dialogue between surface and depth, emotion and form. By layering bold, textured strokes with softer passages, she uses vivid acrylic colors as an emotional language that bridges the personal and universal. Each piece reflects her perception while inviting viewers to discover their own meanings.
