“Lost Lake” was born from a moment of quiet reflection during Anastasia’s 2018 journey to Whistler, where she discovered the tranquil beauty of its namesake lake. Moved by the stillness of the water and the silence of the surrounding forest, she felt inspired to explore a deeper theme—our connection to ourselves.

“In life,” Anastasia shares, “we sometimes drift away from our inner world. But just like discovering a hidden lake in the mountains, we can always pause, reflect, and find our way back. This painting is an allegory of that journey—of losing and then rediscovering ourselves.”

The painting is rich with vivid, sumptuous colors and bold emotion. Created using the traditional Italian impasto technique, it features a multilayered surface with thick, expressive brushstrokes loaded with oil paint. The result is a textured, almost sculptural canvas that invites both visual and emotional immersion. With its glowing palette and introspective symbolism, “Lost Lake” is more than a landscape—it is a meditative piece that speaks to the beauty of stillness, self-discovery, and the path back to wholeness.

Award-winning Seattle-based oil painter Anastasia Fedorova creates unique multilayer oil paintings using the traditional Renaissance Italian technique impasto. Her oil paintings have many layers of different oil paintings. Sometimes there could be up to six layers which she paints one on top of another. Her unique technique allows her to achieve incredible depth in her oil paintings and makes her works full of vivid and sumptuous colours.
