This stunning oil painting is part of Anastasia’s deeply personal series, “Memories,” a collection born from a longing to reconnect with the meaningful moments that shape our lives. “Sahara Desert Memories” was inspired by Anastasia’s unforgettable journey through the Sahara—where she experienced the quiet magic of golden sunrises, sweeping dunes, and the warm, endless glow of desert sunsets.

Unable to travel due to global restrictions, Anastasia turned inward, allowing cherished memories to guide her creative process. Built through multiple layers of rich oil paint, the surface of this piece is thick, textured, and alive with movement. Vivid colors—sun-warmed ochres, deep oranges, and soft pinks—evoke the intense beauty of the desert light. “Memories,” Anastasia says, “are more than moments we revisit—they’re essential to who we are. They help us grow, learn, and become better versions of ourselves. But what I love most about memories is how they remind us to be fully present. So often, we don’t realize how precious a moment is until it becomes a memory.”

Through this series, Anastasia invites the viewer to reflect on the beauty of past experiences, while gently encouraging mindfulness in the present. “Sahara Desert Memories” is both a tribute to a place that touched her soul—and a reminder to treasure the moments we live today.

Award-winning Seattle-based oil painter Anastasia Fedorova creates unique multilayer oil paintings using the traditional Renaissance Italian technique impasto. Her oil paintings have many layers of different oil paintings. Sometimes there could be up to six layers, which she paints one on top of another. Her unique technique allows her to achieve incredible depth in her oil paintings and makes her works full of vivid and sumptuous colours.
