“As I have moved through life, I began to understand the long journey of women in the world and began to investigate my place within it. My current body of work is an exploration of the many facets of womanhood that I experience in the world. I express these emotions and experiences in an abstract form, often using traditionally feminine materials, including beading and fibre. The addition of tactile elements such as beads, texture paste, resin and fibre provides a tangible connection to the landscape and
story told in each piece. Within all of us, there are so many pieces that are soft, fractured, layered, and complex, and I endeavour to collect all these pieces and put them together as a whole. I wish to celebrate women and see women reflected in all aspects of nature surrounding us every day.”

Melissa Passmore is a self-taught artist who creates out of her home studio in Southwestern Ontario. She has been painting professionally since 2018 and originally began her artistic journey as a floral painter. Her recent focus has turned to exploring her journey as a woman and how that relates to the world around her. As she has grown throughout her life, she has continued to evolve artistically and apply her findings to her current work. She is a member of local artist groups in the K-W area and has shown in group shows across Canada.
