Karen Jeffrey

BIOGRAPHY

Karen Jeffrey is a Toronto born Abstract Artist working in acrylic, and cold wax and oil. She graduated from OCADU in Advertising/Design, and later pursued a career as a Pastry Chef. Her two favourite tools for painting are her pastry palette knife and her plastic bowl scraper, bringing all her creative worlds together. Her paintings are a unique combination of abstraction and recognizable landscapes, and this balance allows each viewer to bring their own memories and experiences to the piece. Karen has a wonderful sense of exploration and play that is received, as the layers are being pushed back and forth allowing the colours underneath to guide the top layers and expose what intuitively feels right. Her work can currently be seen in Galleries in Ontario and in numerous private collections in Canada, United States, England, Spain and Austria.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I’m an Abstract Landscape Artist, working in acrylic, and cold wax and oil. I currently live in Markham, Ontario, with my two sons, and two rescued Boston/Pugs. I’m a OCADU graduate and an accomplished Pastry Chef and my two favourite tools for painting are my pastry palette knife and my plastic bowl scraper, bringing all my creative worlds together.

In my latest series, ‘Tapestry of Abstract Landscape’, I explore the abstract landscape forms built from layered strokes of vivid colours. Each piece unfolds like rhythmic patterns that echo embroidery and woven texture. Set against shifting backgrounds that form a steady luminosity. Together, they reflect a meditation on renewal, tenderness, and the small, quiet growth that weaves through each piece. Sweeping gestures in the sky suggest movement like clouds, while spirals rise like trees adding a playful motif. Each work invites the viewer to wander through a landscape both familiar and reimagined.”
