Like a gentle current of air, this painting unfolds in graceful layers of color and motion. Flowing ribbons of blue, rose, and green seem to drift across the canvas, creating a rhythm that feels both spontaneous and deeply intentional.
Soft pastels meet expressive gestures, giving form to something intangible: emotion, energy, a fleeting thought suspended in time. Whether seen as blooming petals or a gust of wind, the painting invites personal interpretation and emotional reflection.
Laura Wood is an Ottawa-based artist who paints with gestural strokes to create elegant abstract compositions. Originally from Aurora, it was clear from a young age she had a rich interior life & art gave her a place to fully express all aspects of her internal experience. Her families encouragement led her to pursuing her passions and she went on to study & receive a BFA from OCAD University.
Wood's process is intuitive as she is guided by the paint & chance happenings with colour mixing and form. Intentionality happens as she takes a pause between strokes. This dance back and forth between pure expression and thoughtful mark-making is how her works are created. Her paintings are also evocative and emotive as she uses paint and colour to represent, as Wood describes- “what otherwise can not be expressed with words.”
