This luminous oil painting captures the tranquil beauty of Spanish Banks—a beloved beach along the Pacific Ocean Inlet in Vancouver, where Anastasia lived, painted, and found deep gratitude in everyday moments. She began this piece during a profoundly special time in her life: while expecting her child. As she painted en plein air, surrounded by the gentle sounds of water and wind, an unexpected visitor appeared—a Steller’s jay. Known for living high in the mountains and forests, this bird rarely visits the coast. Its sudden presence felt magical. “It was like a quiet sign from nature,” Anastasia recalls, “a moment I knew I needed to preserve.”

Moved by this encounter, she wove the spirit of the Steller’s jay into the heart of her painting. Built through six methodically applied layers of oil, the piece boasts a rich, textured surface with colors that are vivid, layered, and full of depth. More than a landscape, this work is a tribute—to new beginnings, unexpected blessings, and the quiet miracles that find us when we’re paying attention.

Award-winning Seattle-based oil painter Anastasia Fedorova creates unique multilayer oil paintings using the traditional Renaissance Italian technique impasto. Her oil paintings have many layers of different oil paintings. Sometimes there could be up to six layers, which she paints one on top of another. Her unique technique allows her to achieve incredible depth in her oil paintings and makes her works full of vivid and sumptuous colours.
